My point of view:
I know that there are many ways to preheat a dutch oven. I personally do it by the following: 1. After I wash and dry my dutch oven and lid, I rub a little bit of oil in it. I use canola oil. 2. I set the dutch oven in a cold oven and set the oven to 350 degrees. I turn the oven on and allow it to preheat for about 45 minutes.
After 45 minutes, I usually check the temperature of the oven with an oven thermometer. If it’s not 350, I turn the oven down to about 250-300 degrees and allow it to stay in for about another 30 minutes. After the dutch oven is at 350 degrees, I place the lid on it, and I place it in the preheated oven.
Then i set the oven for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees. I then turn the oven down to about 200 degrees and allow my dutch oven to cook for about 3 hours.
